Rising sophomore Lincoln Huskey was undaunted about playing with mostly upperclassmen Friday at the Victory Events ATL Elite 150 Showcase in Marietta, GA.
“It wasn’t new, I’ve been playing up basically my whole life,” said the midfielder from Boiling Springs and Sweetlax Greenville, S.C. “I like the competition.”
Huskey indeed competed well enough to earn the Showcase MVP award.
“It went really well, I just played my game, doing what I do,” he said. “I think I did well clearing the ball and helping my team get into (transition) offense while scoring when we needed.”
Huskey, a 6-0, 165-pounder enjoyed a strong freshman year at Boiling Springs, helping his team reach the state playoffs for the first time. He finished with 26 goals, 31 assists and 93 groundballs and was named All-Upper State.
His summer has gone well. His Sweetlax team won one tournament and he helped the Southeast Sonics claim the High School title Sunday at the Victory ATL Classic. In two weeks he will head to a North Carolina Prospect Camp
Huskey said he is working on his game IQ, using both hands and getting his shot off quickly and efficiently. He also enjoyed the instruction from college coaches last weekend.
“I learned more about reading the whole field, and being able to manipulate defenders,” he said. “I worked on my passing. On defense we worked on slide to him to throw off someone before they dodge.”
