Cullen Gorman was thankful for playing on a showcase team that helped him shine last Friday at the Victory Events Gold Standard at Calvert Regional Park, MD.

“I think overall on offense and defense I played well, and overall I also think I played well IQ-wise with other players on my team,” said Gorman, a 2025 midfielder from Ramsey HS (NJ) and Building Blocks, who was named MVP. “I definitely liked seeing the looks I was getting and taking the good matchups on offense against short sticks.

“I was taking every advantage that I saw. I think we all worked together pretty well with very high IQ. We went undefeated and we had a lot of communication with the defense. (Personally), I was feeling out  and noticing whether they were righties or lefties and forcing them to their weak side.”

Gorman, a letterwinner as a freshman, had 27 goals this year for the Rams, who finished 10-9 and reached the NJ North Group 1 semifinal. He said he’s looking for a big school and is interested in majoring in engineering or a similar field.

He lists his top attributes as his speed and lax intelligence.

“I think definitely my speed and my lacrosse IQ and that helps a lot playing with kids you don’t know,” he said. “My shot selection is good; I try to not force shots, take the shots you know are high percentage. And I like playing overall good defense, communicating and making sure I am sliding.”

What is Gorman working to improve this summer?

“I’m working on my finishing, close to the goal and on the run,” he said. “Also, keeping my stick more inside, close to my body so it (the ball)  doesn’t get stripped away; and being able to read the field more and get a better understanding of where cuts are and where I should be.”
