Victory Event Series – Faceoff Guidelines: Fall 2021

Due to recent NCAA rules changes regarding men’s lacrosse faceoffs and Victory’s COVID safety measures, we will conduct faceoffs as outlined below in fall 2021. These are similar to our 2020 guidelines. These are subject change due to COVID-19 policies/orders.

Boys Faceoffs

COVID Safety (ALL DIVISIONS): Referees should place the ball on the faceoff X, then back out a minimum of two yards. Once the official is sufficiently distanced from the ball and players, the two players should then approach the ball. The faceoff will begin after a “Down,” “Set,” and whistle. Clamping for an extended period will not be allowed.

High School Divisions (2022-2025): New NCAA Faceoff Rules: In order to best support NCAA college coaches accurately evaluate faceoff midfielders (in person and on film), the recent NCAA rules changes regarding faceoffs will be in effect, namely:

  • Faceoff players must be in a standing position (one knee down is not allowed).
  • Sticks must be held in a neutral grip (motorcycle grip is not allowed).
  • Clamping for an extended period will not be allowed.

Youth (2026s and younger): Motorcycle grip and one-knee down are allowed for 2026 and younger. Due to COVID safety, clamping for an extended period will not be allowed.
