Dante Avicolli still relishes his days as a youth lacrosse player – especially since his stick skills as a young attackman have helped him as a high school goalie.

“One of my strengths is clearing and also handling with my stick,” said Avicolli, a 2024 from Campolindo High, east of Oakland, CA. “I started as an attackman with the U-9 age group and that helped me develop stick skills a lot when I became a goalie. I can clear the ball downfield for fast breaks.”

Avicolli, who plays club for the Pinnacle Aces, was a starter for a Campolindo team that reached the sectional (North Coast) semifinals in the spring. He had a 54.8 save percentage (164 stops) and is a Player to Watch for the Nov. 4 Cowboy Cup Showcase by Victory Events in Plano, TX.

“I can make the up-close saves that most goalies should make to help my team’s momentum,” Avicolli said. “Of course, I am trying to get stronger and you can always get quicker.”

Avicolli said competing in a showcase as far as Texas can only help his progress.

“I just want to do what I do best and when the smoke clears I want to do a good job of communicating before all the great coaches there,” he said. “I am excited to meet a bunch of guys I wouldn’t meet in California.

What type of school is Avicolli seeking? “I’m mainly looking for NCAA D3, in the Midwest or East Coast,” he said. “I do want a mix of a solid and good program and good academics.

Avicolli said his high school team has high expectations for 2023.

“Junior year is a big year for lacrosse leading into college,” he said. “And our team has big goals. We are looking to win our league (Diablo Athletic League) and hopefully our section.”
