MILFORD, Del. – Dominic Corto says he is like any lacrosse player in the Class of 2020 trying to get recruited by college coaches, but his team’s success is due to teamwork.

“We have a really skilled team, but we also play together instead of showcasing ourselves,” said Cordo, an attackman/middie from York Suburban. “We want to showcase each other.”

The Duke’s team play helped it claims the 2020 AA crown Sunday with a 9-6 win over NJ Riot at the Victory Events Liberty National Classic at the Delaware Turf Sports Complex.

Duke’s Elite finished 5-0, its toughest win being a 6-5 semifinal victory over Tri-State (N.J.). In all, Duke’s teams won four championships in a tourney that drew 117 college coaches.

Duke’s led the entire way, but never by more than three goals. Corto, Randall Brown (Shipley School, midfielder) and Jack Naughton (Shade Side Academy, ATT/MF) each scored twice. Jameson Smyth (Downingtown West, midfield), John Veit (Academy of the New Church, MF/ATT) and Zack Jadlocki (Moon Area, midfield) each added one goal.

“We make sure there is a lot of ball movement,” said Brown. “We finished when we had to and we executed. We have lost in other championships (this summer), so we had some redemption.”
Added Smyth; “I think we worked great as a team this tournament with moving the ball well. We’re all really good friends, we’ve been playing since like 8th grade and we have the chemistry.”

Corto admitted that the recruiting process can be stressful.
“I am starting to get close, but it is still stressful knowing you have to pick soon,” he said. “I want to get it over with. It’s a big priority in my life. I know I still have to work on my weak hand.”
Brown added: “I am making sure I get my skills down, play hard and leave it all out on the field.”
